The Peace Exchange
The Peace Exchange is a registered non-profit working with marginalized regions of the world to create social enterprise, economic growth, sustainability, and entrepreneurial trainings for citizens of developing nations through establishing fair trade cooperatives. They are currently working alongside the NGO ABFEK and Action Kivu in The Democratic Republic of the Congo to empower women and help fight the crisis in the Congo by focusing on:
EDUCATION: Their goal is to see all of the seamstresses of The Peace Exchange send their kids to school. Many of the women, roughly 50%, are going back to school or enrolling in a literacy program themselves, thus helping break the cycle of poverty.
QUALITY OF LIFE: Having the opportunity to work has made the women more respected within their communities and improves their general quality of life.
SAFETY & AWARENESS: Working with local government and female police officers in the region, women have an advocate and voice against violence. Through special seminars and events women are becoming empowered to take a stand against abuse and sexual violence.
HEALTH & FAMILY: The women of The Peace Exchange are supported and encouraged to be proactive in health and wellness. Financial support and special assistance is given to women within their programs who have health problems. The goal is not only to employ women and educate their children, but also to encourage health and wellness within the family unit.
Each item purchased from The Peace Exchange is truly making a difference in the lives of women.
